SeaReady partners with Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation to deliver historic restoration of STS Leeuwin II
SeaReady is proud to announce its partnership with the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation to support the once-in-a-generation restoration of the STS Leeuwin II — a state treasure and iconic tall ship deeply woven into Western Australia’s maritime identity.
Nine months after being severely damaged in a collision with a container ship, the Leeuwin II has now completed her journey from Fremantle Port to SeaReady’s facility within the Australian Marine Complex (AMC) in Henderson.
“The Leeuwin holds a special place in the hearts of Western Australians,” said Warren Rumble, Project Manager at SeaReady.
“Being entrusted with this work is both a technical challenge and an honour for SeaReady and we are proud to help ensure her return to the water and to continue her legacy.”
Restoring a WA Icon
The restoration will include the ship’s masts, sails, rigging, and systems, with the goal of returning the vessel to service in time for the summer sailing season.
This marks a major milestone in bringing the Leeuwin II back to full operational capacity and ensuring she can continue to deliver sail training and youth leadership programs for future generations.
SeaReady, a joint venture formed by WA maritime leaders Orontide (a Veolia company), Fremantle Foundry & Engineering Co., and EJ Electrical Engineering, provides fully integrated dry-docking and vessel maintenance solutions from its base at the AMC, WA’s premier shipbuilding and marine support precinct.
Bringing together more than 200 years of combined experience, SeaReady offers end-to-end project management for complex commercial and government marine works, including emergency dockings, repairs, installations, and compliance upgrades.
“With SeaReady’s help, we’re on our way to a safe and seaworthy return,” said the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation. “We’re proud to have them on board for this historic chapter in the Leeuwin’s journey.”
